This is a Blue-tongued lizard. Australia has six species of blue-tongued lizards and three are common and widespread in New South Wales.
Blue-tongues have an unusual body shape for a skink, with a stout body, relatively small limbs and a thick, short tail.
Blue-tongues are long-lived.Some blue-tongues have been known to live as long as 20 years.

This animal is called Blue-tongued lizards.
It is common in surburban Sydeny.
It is about 30-60cm length.
Blue-tongued lizards are the largest members of the skink family (Scincidae). Australia has six species of blue-tongued lizards and three are common and widespread in New South Wales. The Eastern Blue-tongue (Tiliqua scincoides scincoides) occurs throughout much of the state, west to about Cobar. Blue-tongues are long-lived. Several captive animals have lived for 20 years, and they may live much longer.

In many parts of NSW we're to share our backyards with one of Australia's largest lizards called blue-tongue lizard. Yes, it's Austraila's native. They have blue tongue.

This lovely "thing" in your photo is Blue-tongued lizards. Australia has six species of blue-tongued lizards and three are common and widespread in New South Wales. Bluetongues do not produce their own body heat, and rely on the warmth of their surroundings to raise their body temperature.

oh,it is a terrible thing i think. i am fraid of such kind of animals. i know it is a Blue-tongued lizard. They like to live in open country with lots of ground covered with grass. so it is common to find it in your backyard. we much pay attention not to pick them up. They may bite you. Fortunately, there is no venorm,it just cause pain, break in skin and maybe a bruise. But we still should clean it with a mild disinfectant. Just be cautious.

I'm scared this animal very very much! It's an Australia blue-tongued lizard. It is brown and black blotched on a cream body with usually a dark band behind the eyes.
They have a thick body with small limbs . Sometimes biting at the intruder. However cats, dogs and foxes often kill them because they are quite commonly found in backyards living amongst woodpiles and rock gardens.

Blue Tounged Lizard are the largest members of the skink family. They have little scales overlapping on their back. The belly of the Blue Tounged is usually pale with darker variegations. We usually found them in just about every part of Australia. The gentle-natured,snail loving[and dog food stealing] Blue Tounged Lizard are welcome pest controllers in Australian gardens.
